What constrains growth in Algeria? a diagnostic approach

چکیده
The growth diagnostic approach crafted by Hausmann, Rodrik and Velasco (2005) provides a framework for formulating hypotheses on what may be constraining country’s growth. In this context, paper aims at highlighting the methodology of such an with application to Algeria. Our findings show that low private returns economic activities due micro risks (high taxes, weak contract enforcement & property rights, electricity shortcomings, corruption…), insufficient access finance, are critical binding’s constraint in country. However, unlocking Algeria’s potential requires policymakers should prioritize their intervention removing constraints.

The Policy Research Working Paper Series disseminates the findings of work in progress to encourage the exchange of ideas about development issues. An objective of the series is to get the findings out quickly, even if the presentations are less than fully polished. The papers carry the names of the authors and should be cited accordingly. Food allergy in general, and CMA in particolar, are an unique case in which a systematic approach can be applied even to single cases. As the disease involves not only the patient, but the whole family and her social supports, these can be protagonist of the diagnosis itself. As in any field of medicine, diagnosis starts from the suspicion. In patients reports for milk allergic reactions, an ac...
متن کاملWhat Enables and Constrains the Inclusion of the Social Determinants of Health Inequities in Government Policy Agendas? A Narrative Review
Background Despite decades of evidence gathering and calls for action, few countries have systematically attenuated health inequities (HI) through action on the social determinants of health (SDH). This is at least partly because doing so presents a significant political and policy challenge. This paper explores this challenge through a review of the empirical literature, asking: what factors h...

We examine the effects of transit, documentation, and ports and customs delays on Africa’s exports. We find that transit delays have the most economically and statically significant effect on exports. A one day reduction in inland travel times leads to a 7 percent increase in exports. Put another way, a one day reduction in inland travel times translates into 1.5 percentage point decrease in al...

After a polemical introduction about the proper activity of an astrophysicist facing a dominant theoretical model and many Tb of highly informative data, I review a few recent results on the properties of galaxies in the nearby (redshift one-tenth) Universe that directly bear on physical cosmology. In one example, I show that there are a number of ways of measuring, or strongly constraining, ma...
